Members,
This month, we have many events to look forward to.
As always, the Antlers have their monthly meeting on the first Wednesday of October at 6:00 pm.
We also are planning for the children’s Halloween party which will be the 24th.
The annual LA Veteran’s Hospital BBQ was a success with our crew serving over 300 veterans. As always, I hope that everyone enjoyed their family time this summer.
On a little different line, I would like to share something with our Members:
The original “Jolly Corks Toast.”
Now is the hour when Elkdom’s tower is darkened by the shroud of night, And father time on his silver chime Tolls off each moment’s flight.
In Cloistered halls each Elk recalls His Brothers where’er they be, And traces their faces to well-known places in the annals of memory.
Whether they stand on a foreign land or lie in an earthen bed, Whether they be on the boundless sea with the breakers of death ahead.
What’er their plight on this eerie night, What’er their fate May be Where ever they are be it near or far, They are thinking of you and me.
So drink from the fountain of fellowship to the Brother who clasped your hand. And wrote your worth in the rock of earth and your faults upon the sand.
“To Our Absent Members.”
For those of you who don’t know, the Jolly Cork’s were the forefathers of the Elks.
I hope that many of you will enjoy and better understand the 11 o’clock toast which we all give when the Lodge is open at that hour.
Fraternally
